How I Work
The first step is for you to decide what you want. Collect pictures of the kind of garment you want, or of details you would like to see incorporated. Alternatively, you might prefer to bring me a pattern you have chosen. If you do this, please discuss the size pattern you need with me before purchasing it, as the 'sizes' on patterns do not match the ready-to-wear sizes you are accustomed to buy. At this stage contact me to arrange your initial consultation, which is free. When we have our first meeting, we will discuss your ideas, and I will make notes or draw some quick sketches to record your requirements. We can also discuss fabrics that might be suitable, and where they might be obtained from. Based on this information, I will be able to give you an idea of the cost; however, this may need to be adjusted when the fabric is chosen.

At this initial meeting, I will measure you. It is important to wear underwear that is similar or the same as what you will wear with the finished garment. At this stage you will pay me a deposit and sign the contract. If you need assistance in buying the fabric, I am happy to accompany you to fabric shops; however, you should bear in mind that I will charge for my time. From the measurements I take at our first meeting, and the design ideas we discussed, I will create a 'toile' or test garment to use for fitting. We will arrange fitting sessions (at least 2, and maybe up to 4) for you to try this toile, and for me to refine the fit until satisfied. It is only when this is finished that I will cut the actual garment fabric and begin construction. Depending on the complexity of your garment, there may be additional fittings required, until we get to the final fitting when hemlines will be marked. The next step after that is to arrange to pay for and collect the garment. |
